In fact, there's a possibility of something called an "ice dam" forming on your roof, which can do substantial damage to your house.
As Kaiser Roofing points out, an ice dam occurs when ice on your roof forms in such a way to block your roofs water flow, causing water to get trapped and sit on your roof, often causing leaks.
